# Install

> Installing and starting a NYXDB node — the node process, its configuration file and its data directory.

A NYXDB node is one process started with a configuration file and a data
directory. The configuration names the client listener, the issuer key that
signs bearers, and the storage settings of the node; see
[Configuration](/docs/operations/configuration).

Once the node is running:

1. `GET /auth/issuers` answers with the issuers the node offers (`password`,
   `api_key`).
2. Sign in with a password or an API key at `POST /auth/password` or
`POST /auth/api-key`, and exchange the bearer for a session at
   `POST /auth/session`.
3. Send your [first queries](/docs/getting-started/first-queries).
